Lunch

Today the HR person handed me the restaurant's Indian and European lunch menus. She says I now know enough to start ordering my own meals. I did not bother to open the European menu. For today I picked:

Baingan Bharta, "a pureed smoked eggplant cooked with diced tomatoes, chillies, garlic and finished off with coriander" along with tandoori roti/nan.

It was delicious and that alone would have been plenty but the HR person said I should also have seasoned rice and dal (lentil soup) so she added these to my order.

She picked Dal Peshawari, "black lentils cooked over night on a clay oven, tempered with butter and cream." It was simple and delicious, just like well-made Mexican refried beans can be.

Now I am starting to plan my remaining lunch meals. I noticed an interesting dessert:

Hari Mirch ka Halwa, "Speciality of the house. A dessert made with green chillies, flavoured with cardamom, milk powder and cream." I will order that on Friday so I will have plenty of calories to span the weekend. We're going treking on Saturday!

I found the restaurant is ESCA via this Pune delivery site:
