Miss Kit

Brian took this photo of sweet Miss Kit. I miss you Kit!

The trip to Japan is going well. SJC to LAX to NRT. Got through customs in record time, exchanged money, ran downstairs to the JR ticket counter and got a great deal on the airport express train along with a Suica card.

Each time I try to take a different combination of trains to the hotel, as I love trains. This time I took the Narita airport express to Yokohama then transferred to a local train. It was perhaps the best combination so far, and also the cheapest as there is a special promotion. The ticket agent understood my plan, commented on what a great deal it is, and as she handed everything to me said, "Your train leaves in 3 minutes." Yikes! I dashed down another set of stairs and onto the correct platform, found which car I was going to be in, and got in line just as the train pulled up, no problem. Whew!

They like to tease me about a couple things in the office here:
1) I'm probably the only person to ask the hotel staff for a room overlooking the bullet train tracks so I can hear them go "whooosh!" throughout the night.
2) I'm one of only a few crazy people to get up really early, travel all the way across Tokyo to the fish market... just to have sushi for breakfast before work. (None of them have ever done it, or even seriously considered doing it.)
3. I support the local baseball team (Yokohama Bay Stars) as I consider this my home away from home of sorts. They're in last place yet again.

You Tube

Kit was fantastic today at gymnastics class. She had a ball. At the end of class the instructor, Lindsay, gives each kid a chance to run after a hula hoop she rolls across the floor. Kit has always opted out but today she stepped up and took her turn. When Lindsay rolled the hula hoop Kit hesitated for just a moment then took off running after it. She quickly caught up with it and picked it up. Without any hesitation, she grasped it tightly and brought it back to Lindsay. She then looked at me with a big smile, put her arms way up in the air and sprinted to me for a hug. She was soooo proud and happy of her accomplishment.

Here are some of Kit's favorite YouTube videos.

Tuk's Birthday

Tuk had a great birthday. Many of her friends visited her today but I don't think she let them know it was her birthday. She thought it was special just having them over. (Thank you Misun! Tuk had a great time.)

Kit was very good during dinner at Saizo.

We got home and saw this great photo posted on Debbie's site.

Tuk and Kit are looking forward to their trip to Seattle. Wish I could go too!

Visit with Michelle

Tuk and Kit enjoyed Michelle's visit today.

In our family NFL fantasy league (set up by Terry) I sent the first round of SMACK cards. Hope they were appreciated by those fortunate enough to get one. Hehehe

Big Kid Chair

Today we removed the baby guard from Kit's high chair and turned it into a little kid's chair.

"I'm a little kid now!"

"Where's your tummy, Kit?"

Fountain

We enjoyed the Sunnyvale Farmer's Market today. In particular, I like the Oaxacan Mexican place. I ordered a steak enchilada with mole negro sauce, a chicken tomale with amarillo mole sauce, and a hot chocolate for breakfast & luunch, yum!

Kit wasn't too fond of the fountain, sorry Sal! (Sal made this fountain and was one of Tuk's favorite art teachers). However, she was interested in the ducks.

Another Jamba Juice...

Gymnastics

Here Kit is practicing her donkey kicks.

Then she navigated the French Fry course.

A little pose for mommy while balancing on one foot.

And using her airplane arms to balance on the beam.

Thai Alphabet & Work

Kit's favorite word to say these days is monkey. She is also quite good at the Thai alphabet. When you say a letter she can point to the corresponding picture representing it. For example, in English it would be pointing to the apple when you say, "A is for apple."

Kit came into work today and enjoyed sitting in my chair.

She even had her very own keyboard to use.

During our 1:1 meeting she used the whiteboard to explain her ideas to me.

Museum

Tuk had to run a bunch of errands today so Kit and I went to the Children's Discovery Museum. Here she is contemplating what subject she is going to paint today.

The aprons are made by Mimi the Sardine.

She got completely soaked in the water zone. Her hair was dripping wet and both the right and left sides of her clothes (from top to bottom) were soaked. Staff members told me they rarely see a kid get so wet. She loved it.

Too much fun

We started out the day at the Sunnyvale farmer's market, had lunch at the hole-in-the-wall Mexican place nearby, then played at the Washington Street park.

It was a day filled with slides...

In the late afternoon we met up with friends and their kids at another park. Kit helped me get the kites ready.

Afterwards the kids had fun playing together in the park.

Lunch with Uncle Larry

Kit and I had lunch with uncle Larry today in San Jose's Japan town. Kit was shy then became playful. She kept pointing to something on my plate that she wanted. It took me a while to realize she wanted the orange wedge. Yum!

Kit's gymnastics class is quite structured so she typically protests and does her own thing. Today she was finally accepting of the program and had a great time. She did her warm up stretches, walked like a giraffe and a bear, did the balance and obstacle course and even hung onto the bar. We took turns doing wheelbarrows, with me holding her feet first then she held my toes. It was a very fun experience for both of us.

Happy Birthday Matt!!!

Park with Madi

Kit loves playing in the park, especially if it includes water and a good friend, like Madi.

Dunk

Kit made a slam dunk during her movement class.

She always enjoys Dim Sum.

Playing on this fire truck at the mall is another favorite activity for Kit.

The firetruck is made in England by R.G. Mitchell toys (aka Jolly Riger). This company carries them in the USA. http://www.theisenvending.com/kiddie_sales_jr.htm

Their tag line "satisfaction... at the drop of a coin!" is excellent.

Toys

I have two new toys to play with.

1) Google mini search appliance at work. It's very cool. I have it searching my intranet files as well as my databases. People keep coming by just to see and touch it. It's quite funny.

2) TIVO HD DVR at home. It too is very cool. We don't get much free time to watch television so when we do have time we want to make sure there is at least something of interest available. My UHF antenna in the attic gets all of the local HD broadcasts.

National Night Out

Kit was shy at the National Night Out. She enjoyed having her photo taken with Maria and the fire truck. She even wore her red shoes for the occassion.
