Tonight was the final night of the Santa Clara Police Department Citizens Police Academy class. Wow, 13 weeks went by so quickly.
Here I am with the Police Chief. They shared other photos they took during the class.
Rosa and I were "unit 1" on the car stop scenarios.
They would radio us and we'd drive across the parking lot to handle a number of problems.
Sometimes the problems would escalate.
Each group did the same scenarios yet they would play out differently. Everyone restrained this guy but I actually threw him in the car!
We called "unit 2" (Kent, Dennis and Linda) for backup as these guys seemed bad.
And they were!
This is from another team. We did a bit better. We got the two with rifles as they exited, shot it out with the lady then took Rosa to the hospital.
Our group at the scenarios:
Rosa (nurse), Dennis (a Chaplain), Linda (husband is a parole officer) and Ken (ex-Army).
Then we went to the range to get some training from the range master.
Started with a simunition gun that has been converted to shoot soap pellets.
Old police revolver, Dirty Harry style, Boom!
Glock 9mm, my favorite.
Recoil is light and straight back so it is smooth and accurate.
Standard assault rifle.
Machine gun used by the SWAT team. Full auto is intense.
12 gauge shot gun with a 1 ounce slug. Highly effective yet not fun to shoot. Ouch!
Quite a fun class.
Touring the evidence lab.
Meeting the canine team.
