Odyssey of the Mind Performance

The OOTM team performed for family today at Santa Clara's Central Park amphitheater. It was the first time to see the children in their costumes with all of the props they designed. Great fun coaching this team.

Stanford Basketball

 Took Daina and Kit to see their first university basketball game.

Kit was the "Scholarshare Kid of the Game."  She got to make a short video that was played during the game.  Hard to make her out but she's on the scoreboard.

Party

Kit invited many friends to her weekend birthday party at Lick Mill Park. It was a sunny yet cold day. Face painting, snacks and a scavenger hunt.

Kit is six

Last night we kissed Kit good night and said it was the last time we'd see her as a five year old.  In the morning she was six!

Her upper middle tooth came out yesterday at school.  She is super cute with a little gap in her smile. 

Kit placed the tooth in her special tooth fairy pillow she made in class this year and held it tight while she fell asleep.  In the morning the tooth fairy played a little trick on her.  She moved the pillow to the other side.  Inside was a photo of her tooth fairy, some cash, and a pink candle!  Kit wants to use the special candle on her cake tonight.

When Kit came downstairs this morning she found the living room all decorated for her birthday with Tinkerbell stuff.

Kit's goal for this year is to learn to ride her bike.  We will work on that this spring.

Elephant Seals

Most of Kit's OOTM team went on a trip to view the elephant seals this past weekend.  The weather was nice and everyone had a great time.

Tuk's new car

Tuk sold her handsome 2006 Acura TL and bought a new 2013 Chevrolet Volt.  It is fun to drive and looks great. 

Fairies

Kit loves the Tinkerbell books and movies.  She knows the stories are not real yet wasn't quite certain if fairies might be real or not.  Then the other day she noted that the Tooth Fairy is real so there really must be fairies.

Kit's Game - YOU'RE OUT

Kit has been designing creative games.  Today's game is her third and is based on a new concept compared to the previous two.  It is called, "You're Out!"

1.  Each player receives 10 tokens.

2.  In the center is a plate ("the pot").

3.  On your turn you roll the die.  Transfer the number of tokens shown on the die from your hand into the pot.

     A.  If you are now out of tokens then you have just won.  Congratulations!  The game is over.

     B.  However, if you do not have enough tokens then you are "out".  Do not move any of your remaining tokens into the pot. 

4. Play continues to the next player who is not out.

5. If all players become out then each player may return to the game to roll again on their turn.

In regulated tournament play, 5 players compete around a single pot.  For added variance, the number of sides on the die may be altered from game to game.
